What is the Girudala 'Commonwealth Home Support Programme?

Girudala Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) provides culturally appropriate services for frail, aged and young adults with mild disabilities - to help them maintain a quality lifestyle and independence in
the community, enabling them to stay longer in their
own homes.

65 years and over are eligble for this service (or 50
years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people)

This is a fee for service please see fee schedule below.

We provide care for our elders, respecting the way they link us to our past.

What is the Girudala 'Home Care Packages'

These packages are on a referral basis usually for Clients  who have higher needs, they are assessed by the ACAT assessment nurse which determines what level is required. Contact MyAgedCare to discuss your needs.

The basic fee for a Home Care Package, including Consumer Directed Care up to $135.00 per fortnight.

What is the Girudala 'Community Care'

This is for younger people with a disability 18 years and over

Currently there is no fee attached to this program.

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), will support a better life for hundreds of thousands of Australians with a significant and permanent disability and their families and carers. The NDIS will mean peace of mind for every Australian - for anyone who has, or might acquire, a disability.

Looking after our mob

All our 'support workers' are caring, fully trained and accredited (Aged Care Certificate III) with current First Aid Certificates.

Services provided to clients can include;

  • Domestic Assistance
    Basic duties include mopping, vacuuming, wiping benches and cupboards, hanging out washing and cleaning of the bathrooms areas.
  • Social Support - Individual
    Social visits to clients in their home and having a yarn over a cuppa. Helping them with letter writing and filling in forms, if needed.
  • Home Maintenance
    Lawn Mowing and Whipper Snipping.
  • Transport Services
    Provide transport to and from medical appointments, shopping and paying bills.
  • Social Support - Group
    (Wednesday and Fridays) Provides a social group gathering with other clients, Fishing trips, arts & crafts, picnics at the beach. Monthly calendar of activities published in Girudala newsletter. Small library available to access for clients with topics such as Gardening, Craft, Cooking and Auto-biographies as well as other fiction and non-fiction books on the shelves.  Our program has also been supported with computers that are showing our Elders the fantastic world of internet, they are amazed that an answer to any question they ask is just a click away on the internet.  We plan ahead for our acitivites in this category so if you would like to see what's going to happen, contact the Co-ordinator for a Social Group Calendar.

Am I eligible for this support?
Simply contact My Aged Care for the up to date information on what services you may require.  If you do not have access to a computer ask your family members to help you out.

How much does this cost?
After July 1st 2015, Clients will be asked to contribute to the cost of care.
